Sunday 27th March

Day 2 of my weekend, back to manor farm, drew peg 19 Middle pool. I did quite fancy it for a few.
Started on the bomb and had 4 carp by 2:00 so had a look on the pole and had a few more.
Finished with 43-4-0 for 6th in the match.
Must try harder!
Roll on tomorrow!

Saturday 26 March 2016

Saturday 26th March.

Day 1 of my 3 day weekend saw me heading to manor farm for the open match.
14 fishing. With Ash pool and island pool in. 5 on ash. 9 on island.
I knew you needed to be on ash pool to win but islands always worth some bites and fishing for the lake win.
In the draw bag and out came peg 14 island. It can be a good area but the favoured pegs are 4 + 6 and with these being in my section I needed a miracle.

Kept my approach dead simple. I kitted up:
4 rods - 3 feeder and 1 waggler.
1 pole rig - for my Colmic F33 to fish 8m down the edge to the next pallet.

As I was setting up it was noticeable that the wind was getting stronger and stronger and by just 10 o'clock it was somewhere near 30Mph and getting stronger!
The all in soon came and I started on my Next Adventure 45 rod at around 30 turns fishing popped up bread. 3 casts in about 20 minutes saw me biteless.
So picked up my Next Adventure 60 rod (a bit more powerful) with a 24g guru pellet feeder. Fishing a 6mm pellet on the band and dampened micros inside. I launched this to the island landing just inches off and sat for a bite... I waited 20 minutes and nothing happened and was clear that the fish were shorter as I started getting some line bites.
So I wound back in and chucked it 35 turns and clipped up here. Minutes later the rod wrapped round and a rather welcome 3lb F1 was in the net, and with no one really catching I felt this was ok. The next hour was great, I stayed on this line and kept chucking every 10 minutes and by 2:00 I managed to put 13 F1s and 3 Carp in net.
Then things suddenly died. I had been feeding my edge line with a pot every hour so was keen to have a look on this. Dropped in on this fishing a piece of corn and hoped it would bury...
It didn't! I waited for 10 minutes before that rig was back up the bank and picked up my pellet feeder rod for the last hour of the match. As it was going iffy I started to chase fish so chucked a little further and waited... This resulted in another chunky F1.
I didn't feel this was getting me anywhere so decided to spend the last half an hour fishing tight to the island. At 3:25 the tipped dropped back and small mirror carp was in the net just before the all out.

My 14F1s and 4 carp went 63-4-0 putting me 5th overall and 3rd on the lake.
I really enjoyed the match and was nice to just fish a rod for a change.
Roll on tomorrow!

Sunday 20th March,

First round of the spring league at alders farm for team colmic!
Didn't really know where you wanted to draw so we placed our 3 anglers on our pegs and began setting up.
On arrival to my peg I didn't realise how tight the pegging was going to be but it was tight!
Began my match on a little pellet feeder so I could watch others and see what they did as I didn't want to go and do things wrong and wreck my peg.
No bites on this forced me to have a look on one of my pole lines. Fishing and feeding pellets. Gave this line 20 minutes and without a bite I had a look on my other line, where I opted to feed micros and maggots. And around 10 minutes or so later I had a small carp around 2lb in the net. No one around me had caught yet so I felt I was doing ok.
Re-fed this line and had a look on my other pole line, after waiting around 15 minutes for another bite I thought I might be able to catch a fish off each line and keep rotating as it was very clear the lake was fishing rock hard!
Not a lot to report for the rest of the match!
Managed to Nick 3 fish off my maggot line and 1 off my pellet line giving me 4 carp. Weighing 7-4-0. Beating around 4 in my section. With only 20lb winning my section!
Really difficult day. On the team from we are currently 5th after the 1st round.
Roll on the next round!!!

Saturday 19th March

Manor farm open.
Ash pool. Peg 18.
Ash pools one of my favourite lakes. It's an awesome pole lake which is why I like it, your a little set back on peg 18 but it's a good area.
Started on the bomb and bread and had a few early fish.
Then began catching on the pole at 13m on pellets, caught really well between 12 - 1:30 when no one was really catching.
I had been pinging a waggler line and had a chuck on this around 2:00. 10 casts later the rod wrapped round and a big F1 was in the net but then couldn't get another bite on it!
Set up another pole line to my left which saw me catch a few more F1s in the last hour.
Ended up with around 16 F1s and 2 small carp for 62-4-0. Putting me second overall.

Sunday 13th March.

Back to manor farm for the second time this weekend.
Windmill and ash pools in.
I felt you needed to be on ash pool to win so was hoping to draw on there.
Hand in the draw bag - peg 29 windmill.
Not a very good area really as its in the middle of the lake and its deep here, I felt on windmill you needed to draw down the shallow end.
Windmill is a pole dominated lake so didn't bother with rods.
Had enough time to kit up 5 rigs.
3 rigs were at 13m plumbed up on the same line - consisting of -
0.15 spider line - to an 0.11 hook length, size 18 B911 to a bait band.
1 rig was just there for chasing fish if I needed to plumb up new lines.
final rig was an edge rig, At 5m to my right I had 4 1/2ft of water so fancied catching down there.
At the all in I picked up my pellet rig at 13m and shipped out my Colmic Airon F33 and rattled in 20 4mm pellets hoping for a quick response.
20 minutes passed without a bite after repeating the feeding process every 5 minutes. Minutes later the float slid under and connected to my first fish. A very welcome 2lb F1.
Stayed on this line for the next 2 hours and managed to tick over nicely putting 13 f1s in the net.
I felt I was doing ok as hadn't seen anyone catch yet!
As expected this line soon dried up and found myself plumbing up a new line to my right in the shallowest part of my peg incase the fish wanted to be here. By shallower I mean it's 6" shallower than my other line.
Quick look on this saw me have a few more F1s and some Chunky skimmers.
Mean time I already fed my edge line and was keen to have a look on it.
Lowered my rig in and clunk!
3lb F1 safely in the net, back on this couldn't get a bite!
By now I had around 16 F1s,
So back out on my original 13m line for a good last hour (hopefully) the next 20 minutes saw me not have a bite! And couldn't catch down the edge!
Finally I had a nice run of 3 fish to end the match on 19 F1s.
As the scales came round. My fish went 50-12-0.
And 55-0-0 winning the lake! So I was second on the lake.
In hindsight I think not catching any bonus fish (carp) have let me down a little but onwards and upwards!
Roll on next weekend!

Saturday 12 March 2016

Sunday 6th March.

Manor farm open - peg 26 Middle.
Middle pool can be cruel at times and you just don't know where the fish are gonna be. With this in mind my approach was dead simple.
Couple of bomb rods.
3 pellet rigs.
Stared on the bomb and had 3 fish in first hour.
A quick switch to the pole saw me have a few more fish and going into the last 2 hours I was struggling.
So I fed my pole line and hoped they'd rock up on it late.
Last 30 minutes saw a quick flurry of F1s.
I managed to weigh 56-14-0 putting me joint 6th overall.
Nice weekend overall.
Roll on next weekend!!!

Saturday 12th March

Drawn peg 9 on boundary pool at manor farm in the open match. 19 fishing.

Started off on the bomb and had 2 fish. Then caught a few on the pole but suddenly died at 1:30 and then haven't really caught the rest of the day.
Managed 38-0-0 for 3rd on the lake.
Roll on tomorrow!

Saturday 5 March 2016

Saturday 5th March

Manor farm open - I drew myself peg 34 on windmill pool.
Never fished this peg but I know it's the shallower part of the lake.
I was feeling optimistic as this peg fished well on Thursday in the mid-week open.
Set my Colmic Airon F33 up at 13m and set up 3 rigs.
2 pellet rigs set at dead depth and one rig for looking around the peg.
All 3 rigs consisted of 0.15 spider line to an 0.11 hook length, fishing a banded pellet.
I also kitted up 2 edge rigs as I had around 3.5ft at 14.5m down to my right.
Started off by feeding my 13m line with around 30 pellets before chucking out bomb and bread to see what was about, 10 mintues past and I didnt have as much as a liner so had a quick look on the pole.
I began catching steadily but the fish were only small and the wind was making presentation quite hard!
I thought that the anglers down the other end would catch carp so I thought I needed to!
After around 2 hours in I had about 25lb but bites were beginning to tail off.
On this peg there's a nice long margin with about 3.5ft of water and with it bein so coloured I decided to fish it,
2 rigs for fishing this were:
0.15 spider line main - 0.13 hook length. Size 18 Hooks.
0.19 - 0.15 hook length size 16 hook. (Mans rig) just Incase it was solid.
I fed a bit of micros and corn down there and after 20 minutes I shipped my Colmic Airon F33 out to 14.5m and had a look down the edge, Clunk!!!
I then began catching a few down here and at one stage couldn't get it quick enough,
Ended up fishing this till virtually the end of the match and with around 15 minutes to go managed to hook a late fish, weighing 20-8-0!!!
I was amazed at how strong my Colmic pole was!!! Because I was fishing so tight to "the jungle" I had to hook them and just drag them to my left, this is where the mans rig came into its own!
0.15 Spider line takes some breaking!!!
I spoke to Gary Donachie who was on peg 22 (the other end) and he said he'd caught all F1s to my surprise!
At the scales my mixed bag of carp + F1s went 103-4-0.
Awesome day and really enjoyed using my pole down the edge!!!

Another mirror I had... Weighing about 12 - 14lb.
